Merryn Spence

Merryn has been a dedicated student of yoga for nearly 25 years, initially inspired by her mother’s journey into wellness and alternative healing. She completed her 200-hour YTT during high school with Lisa Clark’s EmbodiYoga in Pittsburgh, PA, where she also assisted her mother, Joanne Spence, in advocating and teaching for Yoga in Schools. Her Allegheny College thesis focused on Trauma-Informed Yoga, emphasizing its need in YTTs. She’s spent the last decade studying and practicing the intersection of somatics and yoga, and the application of Polyvagal Theory. Recently, she earned her 500-hour YTT through My Vinyasa Practice.

Over the years, Merryn has taught yoga and related workshops in diverse settings—studios, schools, community centers, safe houses, jails, festivals, and retreats across the US, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Jamaica, Brazil, Czech Republic, Kenya, and Ecuador. Specializing in restorative, yin, chair, and slow flow yoga, she also loves teaching children and teens to help equip their sovereignty and resilience. Off the mat, she enjoys being outdoors, playing music, hiking, and dancing. See you on the mat!
